DIRT BONDS

A colloquial term for bonds secured by land values, often on unimproved property. The security for payment of debt service may be in the form of, among other things, mortgages on property, property taxes or special assessments based on the valuation of property, special assessments based on the benefit to a property or sales proceeds received upon sales of parcels of property.
