EASTERN OR UNDIVIDED ACCOUNT

A method for determining liability in an underwriting of a new issue of municipal securities, as set out in the agreement among underwriters, in which each member of the underwriting syndicate is liable for any unsold portion of the issue according to each member’s percentage participation in the syndicate. Almost all syndicates are structured as undivided accounts. See: SYNDICATE.
