Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Diversity Statement

At the MSRB, diversity, equity and inclusion are core to our values and to our mission. Our people represent our greatest strength, and we are committed to cultivating a diverse workforce, furthering equity, and embracing a culture of inclusion. Our vision is to give America the confidence to invest in its communities, and as we fulfill our Congressional mandate, we uphold the public trust by reflecting the diversity of the communities we serve and by fostering greater equity and inclusion in the municipal market. 


Our actions to reflect the diversity of and promote equity and inclusion in our market are grounded in the following principles:

  1. We believe that markets function best with the broadest pool of diverse participants, without systemic biases and artificial barriers to success. We do our part to foster DEI to support and improve the fairness and efficiency of the municipal market.
  2. We believe regulators must recognize that their actions may have disparate effects on market participants. We work to ensure that our actions as the municipal market's regulator do not unnecessarily burden any category of market participant. 
  3. We believe the MSRB will more effectively fulfill its statutory mandate the more deeply we understand all aspects of the market. We seek to broaden our accessibility and engagement with market participants so that all perspectives, concerns and expertise are heard.
  4. We believe that a central purpose as a self-regulatory organization is to serve the entirety of our market, including investors, issuers, and regulated entities of all types and sizes. We aim to be truly representative of the market we serve.
